Today in the USS Cavalla Museum in Galveston, a plaque lists the 52 American submarines lost in World War II. Boats that remain on eternal patrol. Their crews, totaling 3,506 officers and men, made the ultimate sacrifice in the same waters where Cavalla triumphed. Visitors to Cavalla can see the battle flag that flew when she sank Shokaku.
